Sunset Cliffs Natural Park
Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a famous city park in San Diego, on the western edge of Point Loma. This famous 68-acre (28 ha) park is right adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. Sunset Cliffs is a notable coastal community of San Diego, located within the Point Loma Community. On the west, the community is bordered by the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The north side of the area connects with Ocean Beach. The east side has Catalina Blvd. and Santa Barbara St. The south is where Sunset Cliffs Natural Park shines bright.
Sunset Cliffs Natural Park includes the entire land strip right adjacent to the ocean. The park was dedicated in 1983 and currently, it stretches from Adair Street to Ladera Street. The Natural Park has been serving as an attraction for San Diego residents for so long now. Not only the local public but also national and international visitors love exploring the park.
Sunset Cliffs Natural Park extends 1½ miles along the western shoreline of the Point Loma peninsula. The unique setting is full of arches, carved coastal bluffs, and sea caves. If you stand on the cliffs, sighting the California gray whale is an easy task. The big mammal migrates from the Bering Sea to Baja California on an annual basis. Also, to view beautiful sunsets and enchanting evenings, the park is the best spot. This is the major reason behind naming the park.
Not only this but the Sunset Cliffs Natural Park also consists of a fascinating intertidal area, expansive ocean views, native coastal sage scrub habitat, and dramatic cliff formations. All of these offer a connection to the popular Point Loma Ecological Reserve.
Not to forget the surfing points right below the cliffs. The park’s cliffside trails are ideal for watching sunsets while walking with your loved ones. But visitors are recommended to walk with caution as the trails are still undeveloped. Several unfortunate falls from the cliffs ended up in saddening deaths as well as serious injuries.
Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, a resource-based park, is also connected to the Luscomb Point area, which is found at the end of Hill Street. The area is named after a local resident, Happy Luscomb, who was known for surfing the area oftentimes. Currently, the Luscomb Point is one of the top-rated and in-demand locations for fancy weddings and sunset viewing. The weddings allow up to 50 guests and provide arrangements accordingly. The park site also offers enough parking slots for visitors. Availability of restrooms is not part of the plan yet.
